The Environment Agency have sent out the list of locks and the manning procedure for this coming season, causing a mixed reaction from the boating community. Many asking what are we paying for with our river licences and as a minimum we should have manned locks.

Comprehensive Review Process:

- Assessment of boat traffic patterns, staff and user safety, and availability of essential services.
Strategic Evaluation:
- Analysis of footfall in operational areas and proximity to marinas, commercial activities, and hire boat operations.
- Consideration of strategic significance and impact on local communities and economies.
Clear Priority System:
- Classification of locks into a priority system ranging from A (Priority staffed) to D (Can be unstaffed).
- Optimal allocation of resources to serve highest needs and responsibilities.
